Exploring Chiang Rai in less than 24 hours

Chiang Rai is the northernmost city of Thailand which is one of the most visited places in this country situated about 785 km from Bangkok.

Even though it may be less popular than Chiang Mai as a tourist destination, but I think Chiang Rai is still fascinating.

Chiang Rai is not only about nature. It has a lot of diversity of attractions, culture and many more.

Exploring Chiang Rai in one day is just never enough. But if you really don’t have much time, join a day tour is not a bad idea.

It was my very first time visiting Chiang Rai and I with my besties decided to join a day tour from Chiang Mai operated by Travel Hub Chiang Mai. We didn’t have much time to explore this city, but this one day tour is totally amazing. It was like we were really exploring three countries in less than 24 hours. Yup, these three countries are Thailand, Laos and Myanmar.

1. Hot Spring Chiang Rai

My one day tour to Chiang Rai is begun at about 8:00 AM with the hot spring Chiang Rai as our first destination. Nothing special about this place, it is just kind of rest area. I took my breakfast here, having some snack and mineral water I brought from Chiang Mai. Because no halal cooks shop available, so I recommend you to prepare some halal food or snacks before leaving for the tour.

2. Wat Rong Khun

Wat Rong Khun or better known as White Temple is one of the most beautiful temples in Thailand. The story behind this temple is very interesting. The golden toilet is also amazing. It is definitely must visit place in Chiang Rai.

3. Karen Long Neck Village

It was so great to have an opportunity to learn about the tradition of this particular tribe. We were also able to take photos with the woman. And before going back we thank her by purchasing their goods.

Well, although this place feels commercialized but still worth to visit.

4. Golden Triangle

The Golden Triangle is a meeting point of three countries: Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. Back then it is one of Asia’s two main illicit opium-producing areas. It is an area of around 350.000 square kilometers that overlaps the mountains of four countries of Southeast Asia:  Myanmar (Burma), Vietnam, Laos and Thailand.

We decided to have a boat ride on Mekong River to Laos and it was very interesting.

5. Mae Sai

Our last destination was Mai Sai. It is the northernmost District of Chiang Rai which is the main Thailand-Myanmar border. It is a good spot for shopping. There are a lot of shops selling foods, clothes, bags and a lot of local products. Note: Be selective about the food, because it is quite difficult to find it here with halal label.

Overall, our one day tour to Chiang Rai was really amazing. We learned a lot of things in a day. We met new people; we got new knowledge, experience and a lot of other valuable things. Thanks to our super amazing guide, he is very informative, friendly, kind and helpful. He helped us a lot. He also helped us to find halal food and a place for prayer.

About 9:00 PM our one day tour to Chiang Rai was ended. I hope someday there is a chance for me to explore more of this beautiful city.

Thank you very much for visiting my blog. Have a good day!
